7 foods we can enjoy eating during the monsoon that are safe

We are so happy, now that the summer is gone we no longer have to deal with the scorching sun, it’s just us and the thunderous rain of monsoon. We will not be sweaty wet with the heat but humidity and rainwater. Fruits like watermelon, mango that nature provides us to hydrate during summer is changed to jamun and pomegranate during monsoon. Cold drinks like Aam Panna and sugarcane juice is changed to hot drinks like Tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

There are so many things to do every season as it comes with not just the change in the weather but the effects and change in our routine as well.


Let’s take a glimpse of things we can enjoy eating during this season and how it affects our body –

1.  Corn/ Bhutta –

This favourite monsoon item has multiple benefits to our body. It is loaded with lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals that promote healthy vision. It also helps with weight loss; the insoluble fibre in corn feeds good bacteria in your gut, which aids in digestion. We love the warm corn served with lemon and masala on a sidewalk washed clean with rainwater. It also strengthens our enamels from the way we bite and chew it. Sweet corn is one of the types of maize that is served these days.It is rich in Vitamin C, Magnesium and Vitamin B-6. Nutrition of iron is also present.


2.  Hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate –

However, tea and coffee contain caffeine that may not be healthy but a very simulating product to the brain.We enjoy warm food and drink served in rainy weather. To the replacement of it, a cup of hot chocolate is a great drink to sit with on your window. Hot chocolate is the mixture of heated milk and cocoa powder served warm. Cocoa powder has Polyphenols in it, which improves brain functions. Chocolate improves mood and depression symptoms of a person. Yes,that’s right Hot chocolate is believed to reduce high blood pressure by improving nitric oxide levels. It’s a great combination of taste, health and compatibility to the windy weather.


3.  Jamun –

This fruit not only stays with us during summer but monsoon too. It is a great weight-loss diet fruit being low on calories. It also has Vitamin A & E with other antioxidants that improve the appearance of your skin. Jamun also optimizes digestion being a source of dietary fibres.


4.  Soup –

When you come home wet in rain, it is advisable to take a shower and consume something warm and healthy. Diverse vegetables like carrot, mushroom, broccoli, tomato, capsicum, cabbage, coriander and sweetcorn are spiced up with chilli, garlic, pepper and much more to form a tasty soup. These veggies contain a lot of nutrition required for our body. It maximizes the number of vitamins, proteins, minerals, carbohydrates in a single vessel. A bowl with a good quantity of hot & spicy soup is perfect sustenance on the rainy, lightening night.


5.  Pomegranate –

The raindrops of monsoon bring the juicy seeds of a pomegranate. A fruit which is a powerful antioxidant that tackles the ageing of the skin with the presence of Vitamin C in it. This vitamin plays a key role in the formation of collagen. It also reduces inflammation in the gut and improves digestion. Its a great fruit that this season provides us.


6.  Cherries –

Cherries are available in a huge quantity in monsoon. It provides a wide range of rich nutrients that include potassium, calcium, fibre and vitamin C. Low calories diet food that you can munch all the time.


7.  Pakora –

One of the warm monsoon snacks we prefer to eat with tea. A fried food may not be healthy. However, it is made out of any two ingredients from onion, spinach, egg plant, paneer, potato and more. These food are dipped in the batter of gram flour aka besan, which has fibre, iron, potassium, manganese, Vitamin B-6 and more. Each ingredient used to cook pakora has some amount of nutrition to it. How can we not enjoy a warm tasty snack on a rainy evening, right?
